The Bach Effect
Move over Mozart! Bach was way ahead of his time in recognizing the amazing benefits
of classical music, especially when combined with coffee. Zimmerman’s Coffeehouse,
not a church or recital hall, was the site of Bach’s own chamber music series in Leipzig
almost three hundred years ago. Experience the Bach Effect in person in two exciting
chamber music concerts May 17 and 18 with free cookies and coffee to follow.
World renowned bass-baritone François Loup joins the early music ensemble Harmonious Blacksmith in
Bach’s comic masterpiece, the Coffee Cantata. Also featuring soprano Meghan McCall and tenor Ole Haas,
the Coffee Cantata tells the story of a girl’s addiction to caffeine and her father’s attempts to reform her.
In the end, he wins by threatening to keep her locked up in the house with no prospects for a husband,
but she keeps an ace up her sleeve in the surprise ending.
